Bio

Sworn in as North Carolina's first female labor commissioner on January 6, 2001. She won re-election in 2004 and began her second term January 5, 2005.

1993-2001 Served in the N.C. House of Representatives, representing the 45th District (Catawba, Gaston and Lincoln counties).

Former bussiness owner of LGM, Ltd, a company that produces spark plug wires for the automotive industry.

Awards
2007 - Holmes-McBride Memorial Award from the N.C. Association for Agricultural Fairs for her contributions to improve the agricultural fairs throughout the state.

2005 - Chairman's Award from the N.C. Manufacturer's Association for her commitments to safety in the manufacturing industry.

2004 - Named the U.S. State Official of the Year by the National Association of Home Builders. She was choosen for her focus on education and outreach in the construction Industry.

2003 - "Build with the Best" Pinnacle Award from the Carolinas Associated General Contractors for her contributions to the betterment of the construction industry and to the economic welfare of North Carolina.
