Hi! I’m Cherie Berry, Commissioner of Labor. Folks say, "Oh, you’re the elevator lady. " Well, yes I am, but I’m a lot more than that! I am also responsible for making sure that you and over 4 million workers go home safe and healthy at the end of the workday to families, loved ones and friends. Almost eight years ago, when I took office as your labor commissioner, North Carolina was not even in the top ten safest states in the country in which to work. Our workers deserved better and we immediately went to work to change that sad statistic. By working hand in hand with our business community and workers, we have been able to achieve the lowest injury and illness rate in the history of the state…for the past seven years. Our workplace fatalities are the lowest ever recorded; however, we cannot rest until no worker is injured or dies on the job. I ask for your vote and support on November 4th to continue to develop partnerships with businesses and workers to expand our existing businesses and welcome new ones to the state. With your help we will continue to protect the safety and health of you and your loves ones and friends; our lives and livelihoods depend on it. Sincerely yours, |
